That Time I Went Crazy & Decided to Run a 1/2 Marathon

Oh yeah, that time I decided to run a 1/2 marathon.

One day, after a particularly good gym session I bragged about my new-found prowess for fitness to my mum (okay I’m 22 and still call my mum, like, 3 times a week).

Obviously, I needed to prove myself, so mum says, hey why don’t you set a goal and run a half marathon!

Haha, I said. You must be kidding. People actually do this? To themselves? For fun? Not just so they can eat cookies and still fit their skinny jeans?

Apparently they do. And I’ve joined them.

There was a brief period in year 7 where our teacher made us run every day for P.E when I may have been as fit, but not since then. Since then I’ve made every excuse in the book for not running.

Here are 5 things I’ve learnt about running.

1. Fuck, it’s hard.

2. You can actually eat all the cookies and still fit your skinny jeans. COOKIES! BREAD! CHOCOLATE!

3. Blisters might be the worst sports injury in the world. But also super fun to pop. Strap your feet.

4. No matter how much you don’t want to go for a run, you always feel infinitely better after doing it. Serotonin bitches.

5. It’s really freaking awesome to look back at your week and see all the ks you ran. Multiple ks!
